Inerting systems

Inerting systems reduce the risk of fire and explosion through the use of inert gases.

The introduction of inert gases within processes, reduces the oxygen level below the critical concentration level, making the processing environment safe and combustion-free.

Logic creates solutions based on Mettler Toledo oxygen analyzers that are compatible with new or existing facilities, such as raw material storage, production machinery, final product packaging, etc.

All Logic inerting systems are compliant for ATEX Zone 1/21 applications and SIL2 version is available.

Inerting gases can be used in all stages of production and transportation of products that are either oxygen-sensitive or potentially explosive and therefore hazardous in the presence of oxygen (flammable substances, chemicals, active ingredients, etc.).

The main applications of inerting systems are:

  • Centrifuges in the pharmaceutical field;
  • Inerting in the primary (upstream) sector of active ingredient formulation;
  • Use of flammable/potentially explosive materials within machinery that was not originally ATEX certified, thus avoiding the decommissioning of expensive plant assets.

The main sectors in which inerting systems are used:

  • Pharma sector;
  • Cosmetics sector;
  • Chemical sector;
  • Hydrogen applications
  • Mineral oil industry
  • Edible oils industry
  • Food and beverage industry

Logic inerting systems, consist of 3 main units:

Sampling Unit: contains the gas sampling and filtering system, oxygen sensor and flow sensor, with dimensions of 1000x800x300 mm (HxWxD).

The filtration system is a two-stage system, suitable for inerting difficult processes such as mixers containing solvent vapors or chemical reactors.

The Mettler Toledo oxygen sensor, is chosen according to the application field and actual needs of the customer:

  • Logic inerting system with InPRO 6850i G sensor;
  • Logic inerting system with TDL GPro500 sensor.

Control Unit: to be installed in safe area, contains safety PLC, intrinsically safe barriers, safety and diagnostic inputs and outputs. Allows management of the Sampling Unit equipment and control of the nitrogen valve of each mixer. Dimensions: 800 x 600 x 300 mm (H x W x D).

Display Unit: consisting of a PCL-X-10.1 operator panel, suitable for use in Zone 1/21, mounted on a suspended arm or floor stand with stainless rotary joints.
